SHOPTALK – Celebrating Leitrim’s shop fronts and their cultural heritage.

Project Dates and Time:  Thursday15th to Saturday 17thAug + Wednesday 21th to Saturday 24th Aug. 

Open daily : 11am - 5pm 

Project Location: Main Street (beside Lena’s Tea room), Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim

Admission:  admission is free and all welcome during opening hours (11am to 5pm) but booking for the event on the 21st is essential (

Opening Event: 15th of August (6.30 - 8pm) with Cllr. Finola Armstrong-McGuire, Brian Farrell and historic shop owners.

Panel Discussion Event: The Cultural Heritage of Shops and their use as Social Spaces - 21st of August (7:30 – 10pm) With Alison Harvey, Dr Arthur Parkinson, Fintan Duffy and Carole Coleman.

The Leitrim Heritage Office in conjunction with Creative Ireland and artist Vanya Lambrecht Ward invite you to come and Talk Shop! In a shop on Main Street of Carrick-on-Shannon (beside Lena’s Tea room), you will find us for a short period leading up to and during Heritage week.(Thursday15th to Saturday 17thAug & Wednesday 21th to Saturday 24th of Aug). 

This temporary shop will serve as an exhibition, library and activities space and well as a meeting place for collecting and sharing stories and hold talks around the value of Leitrim’s shops and their facades.

We invite you to come to share stories and ideas, try your hand at signwriting or tiles design or find information at our specially curated library. SHOPTALK will be launched at 6.30pm on the 15th of August with Cathaoirleach Cllr. Enda McGloin, Cllr. Finola Armstrong-McGuire, photographer Brian Farrell and signwriter Gerry McGarrgle.

SHOPTALK will also be hosting public talk on the 21st of August. Our panel of invited experts, Alison Harvey (Heritage Council), Dr Arthur Parkinson (UCD), Fintan Duffy (DHB Architects) and host Carole Coleman (RTE) will discuss elements around the topics of conservation and planning and cultural heritage.
